The Two Ways I've Stopped Sabotaging my Productivity and Happiness

"Mom, do you have a baby in your belly because it's so BIG!"


Kids say the darnedest things.

That innocent comment from my 5-year old was the straw that broke the camels back.

At the end of 2018, I had enough.

I was waking up everyday slugging coffee, rushing into my to-do list, and feeling overwhelmed and HEAVY.

It was like this PIT was sitting in my gut.

I'm not happy, I thought.

And what I was feeling on the inside, was showing on the outside.

How did I get here?

I have a great job, high paying clients in my business, a solid marriage, an awesome kid, nice home, nice car...

I have enough.

But the problem was that I didn't feel fulfilled.

I didn't feel like I WANTED to get out of bed and enjoy the day.

I felt like I HAD to DO THE THINGS in my DAY in order to HAVE money, happiness, things.

There's a big difference in motivation and want to.. then HAVE to.

It was time for a change.

First, I asked myself, what am I feeling most days?

Most days I felt sluggish and stressed.

Second, I asked myself, what makes me happy?

It's family time, crafts, a good workout at the gym, and feeling like I'm accomplishing something BIG.

Third, I thought about what I want to feel.

I want to feel energized, relaxed, and like I'm progressing in my business.

Lastly, I asked myself what needs to go?

When I got to the root, I realized it was anyone or anything that made me feel HEAVY and WEIGHTED DOWN.

That was meat, dairy, and sugar in my nutrition, AND the stress of the day.

I went to the teachings of my mentors. I journaled about happiness, and I came up with a solid plan.

2019 is looking very different for me.

Instead of jumping right into my to-do's and feeing like I didn't get enough done at the end of the day, I start my day with:

1. A 10 minute meditation (thanks Beachbody on Demand from your Yoga Studio. Bee is great!)

2. 5 minutes of stepping on a rock and grounding each foot (thanks Bo Eason!)

3. A 15 minute vocal warm up (thanks Roger Love!)

4. 5 minutes of using my High Performance Planner (thanks Brendon Burchard!)

5. 5 minute of colouring in my adult colouring book (thanks Walmart for your journal/colouring book!)

I start my day in creativity and fun, precise planning and focus, and the tools that make me a better coach, speaker, and writer.

Throughout my day, I'm getting a workout in, or a hike outside, in between my to-do's.

And the evening time is spent with a 6pm work curfew, a 10 minute meditation, my high performance planner, a 9pm bedtime curfew, and lots of family time.

It's seems like a lot on paper, but it's not.

It's all about knowing what brings you joy, happiness, and focus, and doing more of that!

I've given myself a new perspective and I'm leading with my emotions.

Some will say that's wrong, but powering through my to- do list just made me unhappy.

The last big change was going vegan and instilling a "dry" January- no alcohol.

I'm not here to sway you one way or another, but since I've stopped eating meat, dairy, and sugar, it's like a FOG has been lifted.

My belly has deflated and the bloat is gone.

My son loves running around with me because my energy is up and I'm more focused when reading him a bedtime story.

I simply spent all of January 1st compiling a list of vegan meals that I wanted to try and I started cooking.

Some are a hit, some are a miss, but I'm loving how I feel in my second week.

Simply changing how I start and end my day, and changing what I eat and drink, has made a world of difference.

If you're not feeling like YOU, then it's time for a change.

You're going to think that it's hard, and it takes effort, but your health and happiness are worth it.

You're worth it.
