If you're part of those statistics, you know it takes a lot to run a start and run a small business. Not only do you have to manage the operations side, but you also have to make decisions like whether or not you need a mentor.
Why are mentors important?
They can make growing your business faster and easier with strategic advice and real-world experience. Mentors can help in several specific ways.
I've been blessed to have a few mentors in my life including Brendon Burchard, Mel Abraham, Roger Love, and Bo Eason. Brendon taught me about high perforance and online business. Mel taught me about webinars and teaching frameworks. Roger Love helped me with my speaking voice, and Bo Eason taught me about my personal story and how to be the best at whatever I set my mind to.
I would always go to mastermind events and conferences thinking that my business would change, but everything would change! The way I parent, my relationships, my self care, my decision making, it was all impacted and my AHA usually had nothing to do with business.

1. Learn From Someone Else's Mistakes
Business ownership often comes down to trial and error. You learn a lot about how to run a business by making mistakes.
You can save yourself time and pain by learning from someone else's mistakes. Your mentor has been through many of the learning experiences already.
Instead of starting from scratch, tap into your mentor's experiences to help avoid making those mistakes yourself.
You'll still have your share of learning to do. But your mentor can help you learn a little faster in some areas.
2. Get a Different Perspective
It's easy to have tunnel vision when you're working on your business. You have your mind set on certain things working. You may miss looking at the situation from a different angle.
That's where a mentor can help.
Your mentor has different business experiences and different life viewpoints that can help you see something from a different angle.
3. Bounce Ideas Off Someone
A mentor is a built-in resource for bouncing off ideas about your business.
Maybe you're working on your brand development. You have some ideas, but you're not sure if they'll be effective.
Share your ideas with your mentor to get feedback. If you have specific questions, ask your mentor.
Your mentor likely has experience in all the things you're doing right now and can let you know if your ideas will work well. They may be able to help you change your ideas slightly to make them more effective.
4. Make Industry Connections
Someone who's established in the industry likely has lots of connections. It could take you years to create those connections on your own.
Spending time with your mentor gives you access to those other industry experts. You may meet people who can help your business grow in ways you couldn't on your own.
5. Receive Encouragement
You may feel like giving up multiple times in your entrepreneurship journey. Only about half of businesses survive five years, and only about one-third last 10 years.
Having a mentor may help your business become one of the long-term survivors.
