How to Grow Your Business By Protecting Your Environment

Have you ever gone to an event, whether it was a business conference, a personal development event, the Theater, or a concert, and you've come back changed?

You hear,

"What Kool-Aid have you been drinking?"

Because you're hyped up, ready to make change, and ready to go ALL in with your business and life.

Then what happens a few days, a week, or a month later? Are you still as consistent in your efforts? For most people, the answer is no.

Robin Sharma said,

"Victims have big TV's. Leaders have large libraries."

I've learned that when you need support and accountability the most, you either win or lose the day based on your environment.

It's not your why. It's not your willpower. So stop beating yourself up that you don't want it bad enough or that you don't have the right tools.

The truth is, your environment isn't set up to keep you focused.

When I was in labour with my son, Oliver, I wasn't where I wanted to be. I wanted the all natural home birth. Oliver wanted to stay "double footling breech" which meant he wanted to be delivered feet first.

We tried every method to get him to flip "head down," but he was set in his stance.

Being an ICU nurse, I knew what going to the hospital entailed; intervention after intervention. And before I knew it, I was on Pitocin, with my water manually broken, induced with an epidural, and about to be wheeled in for a C-section. A routine ultrasound turned into Oliver's day of birth.

I had been saying no to interventions for 12 hours and fighting to have a birth in a comfortable way. My husband went back home to get my exercise ball, playlist, as I wanted to bounce and walk.

They told me that I had to be in bed, on monitors, and not moving, even though all stats were completely normal.

This was their preference. But after 12 hours of fighting and pain, my husband, my doula, and I didn't have anything left. We surrendered. Oliver was born healthy, but I had a lot of healing to do.

Your environment, influences and people around you can either make or break you. Even if they are well intentioned. We are all operating with our own set of beliefs.

Here are 3 tools to ensure your influences and environment have your back!

1. As you grow, your business grows.

When you're open to love, open to create, open to give and you take action, the universe meets your more than halfway. If you're never open to new perspective and wisdom, how will you ever grow? Some ways to open your heart include:

  • Being intimate with those you love
  • Walking in nature and enjoying the scenery
  • Volunteering
  • Meditation
  • Journaling

Before I open a single email, I ensure that I've connected with my deepest thoughts and I've connected with those you I love the most. THEN I'm ready for everyone else.

2. Share your dreams with those who "get you."

Without my doula and husband, I'm not sure I would have even made it 12 hours of some normalcy or control over my body and our birth.

When I made my vision board for 2021, I shared it with my husband, my son, and my mastermind group.

If I would have shared my deepest desire with Facebook. If I really started talking about why and what mattered to me, I'm sure I'd get a lot of naysayers, haters, those who laugh, those who mock.

Anyone who tries to deter my family or I from our dreams isn't welcome in our home or in our headspace.

I used to be a people pleaser. I used to worry about what people thought of me. I used to want to do things "right" and "proper" all the time.

Now I focus on dreaming so big, so audacious, so scary, and I protect those dreams with huge boundaries.

Before you click into social media, tap into your dreams first. What you think of yourself is so much more powerful than any likes or comments on social media.

3. Ask for help

I used to sleep like crap on Sundays nights. Even as an entrepreneur, with a schedule that I created. Clients that I accepted and loved working with.

It wasn't until I got silent and listened to my internal voice in meditation that it came to me.

"You've always had to do it all, and when crap hit the fan, you were always told it was all your fault."

I didn't know how to trust my own husband and team (who are incredibly capable, hard working, and amazing) to do their part. Even though I had no evidence to say that they wouldn't own it.

I'd been running with this mixed tape that I had to do it all, or it would all blow up in my face.

When I had a conversation with my husband about it, spoke it into existence and faced it, I could feel the stress melt away.

You don't have to do it all. You can ask for help. Some of the biggest dreams that I have, I have NO IDEA how to achieve them.

But I know that I need to ask for help.  I know that I can't do it alone.

What big hairy, scary, amazing dreams are you bringing into existence? My team and I of copywriters, designers, coders, funnel builders, website builders, course and membership builders, business strategy, and lead generators are just a message away!
