My three and a half year old son loves to blame a "bad guy" (because he loves police officers and "arresting" people),for stealing his toys, and eating the last cookie. And we're teaching him about responsibility and honesty, But the same goes for our health. It's the easy route to blame genetics for poor health. I come from a family of Italian and American women, who all had heart disease, obesity, and diabetes. The way I look at it, I'm doomed! Which is why I had to take action!

I lied. I told a little white one, while sitting on a big blue couch in front of a Television Camera on a Tuesday morning. It was my monthly segment as an Expert Health and Fitness Host on our local TV network, and we were discussing my Break the Mould: Become Fit, Fierce, and Fearless in the Life You Deserve Book. "I'm being picked up by Chapters now!" Excitedly spat out of my mouth. Part of that was true, part of that maybe not so much.
My body is balanced. My body is happy. I'm not on some fad diet or plan for the short term. I know how to EAT whole, real foods, all damn day long and I've never felt better. I know you want me to tell you it's OK to do the quick fixes. But I've seen the long term pain that it causes. Don't you want to celebrate at the end the year because you've gotten in the best shape of your life, mastered your nutrition, and stayed consistent?
I love creating nutritional plans for my clients. For everyone who has ever said, Just tell me what to eat and I'll eat it, I've got you covered, But what happens when you have to eat off the meal plan. What happens when you are traveling? What happens when it's a holiday? What happens if you really just WANT that dessert, wine, or burger? If I've created this dependency on me for advice, you won't be successful.
I used to blame myself, blame my body, shame myself, and lash out on others because of my own insecurities. But now I'm driven by science. And in my research this past month, I've read about 5 Hormones that when out of whack, wreak havoc on our health. Take this assessment of questions and follow the guidelines for a quick fix!
You are the real thing. A genuine original. Perfect in all your flaws. So find your voice and change the world. Make a REAL difference. Be a hero, an inspiration, a mentor. Believe in your gifts and USE THEM WISELY. Never stop learning. Make mistakes and ask questions. EMBRACE THE JOURNEY. Be passionate about the things that matter most to you. YOU ARE THE AUTHOR of your LIFE STORY. Make it a GOOD ONE."
There is something so amazing about seeing the awe and excitement of a child. As a mother, my greatest joy is seeing the excitement on my son's face with each new adventure that we share as a family. But I can't help but wonder how much of that shiny object syndrome still exists in my own life. I often find myself turning one way, and then getting an idea or a concept, and completely going off path with another idea. I find myself heading down a path that I didn't choose.
We are conditioned to focus on the negative. "She's so annoying. Who does she think she is?" You see that's the thing- she KNOWS who she is- and she isn't afraid to share it. Many people never delve into finding out who they really are, what they really want, and what they want their life to look like. Many people don't even know what makes them happy, and they live their life disconnected from themselves and others.
